Good morning, folks!
My name is David Somerville and I am a Backyard Wildlife Enthusiast located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
I have been fascinated with wildlife my entire life and even though I have extensively studied and watched the different birds, squirrels, raccoons around me I am still just an amateur. It’s nice to have a hobby!
A few years ago a buddy and I decided to start a small business dedicated to having more fun with the wildlife in our backyards. Out of that idea The Squirrel Shop was born.
The Squirrel Shop creates high quality cedar crafted squirrel and bird feeders by hand in our small shop in Baton Rouge. Growing The Squirrel Shop has been an incredible journey and it has become one of the top producers of squirrel feeders in the United States.
The Squirrel Shop is an opportunity for us to spend time with our kids while we are ankle deep in piles of cedar lumber. Making squirrel feeders surrounded by friends and family is a great way to spend a weekend!
In 2019 I left my full time corporate job to focus on The Squirrel Shop as well as a few other ventures. The journey is exhilarating and terrifying at the same time!
This site was put together in an effort to:
- Improving my photography skills
- Give me a place to write about my backyard projects that are not related to The Squirrel Shop products.
- Get involved with wildlife conservation
- Getting off my butt and start enjoying my backyard!!
