About a month ago I took a bunch of teenagers to the Louisiana Renaissance Festival in Hammond.
I had never been to a “Ren Fest” and had no idea what I was getting myself into.
Imagine my surprise when I found myself looking at an incredible display of raptors who were just sitting there looking back at me!
There was an exhibit by Accipiter Enterprises with rehabilitated hawks, falcons and owls.
Many of the birds had posters which detailed how they were found and what their injuries were.
Every few hours there was an exhibit in an open field where many of the birds flew around, responded to commands and just looked awesome in general.
I think this is the Barred Owl named Webster.
Not too sure about the kilt but who am I to judge??
This almost looks like a scene from a Harry Potter movie!
I believe this guy is a Eurasian Eagle Owl. Pretty cool.
There were a couple of beautiful kestrels sitting like statues.
And of course there was a lot of discussion about the recovery of peregrine falcons.
These birds were a wonderful find that really made my day. It was great to hear the different conservation and recovery stories.
If you ever get a chance to head out to the Louisiana Renaissance Festival make sure you visit this incredible exhibit!
